MACAO (Xinhua) - The 2009 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF), hosted by the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), will be held here from April 2 to 4, 2009, the SAR's Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) announced today.

By organizing major forums, themed exhibitions and business- matching activities, the three-day event was designed to create a communication platform for enterprises and assist them in seeking co-operation opportunities, the IPIM said in a press release.

The chief executive of the Macao SAR, senior officials of China and international environmental industry and related sector, as well as international environmental experts will give thematic speeches at the Opening Ceremony.

The MIECF will include a three-day Green Showcase which covers a total exhibition area of more than 8,000 square meters with over 180 exhibitors.

To be in line with the theme of this year's MIECF, two symposiums namely the Energy Saving, Emission Reductions and Carbon Trading Symposium and the Natural Disaster Management Symposium will be held in the morning of April 3. Officials of the responsible government departments, experts and academics from the overseas, EU and Mainland have been invited to give speeches at the symposiums.

Through various activities, the MIECF will provide opportunities of exchange and cooperation for the participants and further promote Macao's economic development, said Lee Peng Hong, president of the IPIM at a press conference here.

The organizer will also offer special preferential treatments to local small and medium enterprises for them to participate in the event, with the aim to help these enterprises weather the economic slowdown caused by the global financial crisis, said Lee.
